Did you know that your network equipment, like your router, could be slowing down your Internet? This equipment could cause your computers, phones, and tablets to seem slower and cause frequent internet disconnections. It could also be vulnerable to extremely dangerous malware! If you’re sick of having to reboot your router to “fix the Internet” and want to make sure your network and files are secure, read on!
Upgrading network equipment is something nobody wants to think about. You have to choose the right model, set up the Wi-Fi, re-connect all of your devices, etc. It’s a complicated process, and many people don’t know how to do it correctly. Trying to do this yourself could leave you with a slow internet connection and an insecure network.
If you want to skip the technical jargon, you can jump over the next section to see how ATP can help.
You might have tried to upgrade your wireless network before. It may not have seemed like too much trouble, but it also may not be secure or optimized for the best speed. Some things to think about are whether you are using the latest wireless technology in wireless 802.11ac or using an older technology like 802.11n/g/b. 802.11ac, also known as “Wi-Fi 5,” is the latest version of the Wi-Fi standard, which allows much faster network speeds than older versions of the standard. It also offers technologies like MuMIMO, which help keep your network speedy when you have multiple devices connected at once.
You also want to make sure your WiFi is password protected. Even if it is password protected, the security protocols that you are using are an important factor in the security. Protocols like WEP can be broken very easily, which can give attackers easy access to your router, whereas protocols like WPA2 are extremely difficult to crack. You also want to look at whether or not your router is dual band. This means that it operates on two separate radio frequencies: 2.4GHz, which offers greater range and better signal through walls, and 5GHz, which allows for faster speeds and is less susceptible to congestion or interference. Operating at a 5GHz frequency can also keep your microwave from disconnecting your phone from the Wi-Fi (Seriously)!
